 Scone’s last chance

Scone’s last chance

28/08/2008 12:18:00 PM
A disappointing loss to Minor Premiers the Singleton Greyhounds on the weekend sees the Thoroughbreds play host to the Greta-Branxton Colts this weekend in a do-or-die final which will determine the Greyhound’s opponents in the Grand Final.

Sunday’s match at Resco Park started great for the Thoroughbreds despite being understrengthed with a number of forwards out due to illness or injury.

The Thoroughbreds scored first points and looked the better team the whole first half, dominating the play at the oppositions end and defending relentlessly.

However, fatigue took it’s toll in the second half and with only 2 forwards on the bench, the Thoroughbreds began to show signs of exhaustion – and the Greyhounds took full advantage, skipping away from a 12-all half-time score to win convincingly 38-12 to secure their spot as Grand Final hosts.

Down but not out, the Thoroughbreds will now face the Colts at home, hopefully with an almost full-strength side.

It will be a massive clash as these two competitive sides meet up to keep their premiership hopes alive.

After seeing Reserve Grade bow out of the competition last Saturday off the back off a disappointing loss to Greta-Branxton, the first graders are now Scone’s only hope at Grand Final Glory this 2008 Season.

Scone will look to their strongest players in key positions to formulate a game plan that will hopefully overcome the Colts. Defense will be vital, and if the boys can play like they did in the first half of last Sunday’s game for the full 80-minutes, they’re in with a good chance.

This Sunday will be the final weekend of footy at Scone Park, and all of our supporters are encouraged to get down to the game and cheer the boys home.

It will undoubtedly be an impressive display of local footy, with both sides having everything to lose. Sunday’s finals matches will kick off at 10.45am with Muswellbrook meeting Greta-Branxton, Reserve Grade will see Greta-Branxton match up to Merriwa at 12.15pm and the first grade fixture at 2pm.

Finals fever has hit Scone, and you’d be sorry to miss out on what promises to be an excellent day.

Don’t forget, our Presentation Night will be held on Saturday September 19 at Club Scone, so keep the your diary free.
