Scone educated saxophonist, Tom Barton has recently returned from China where he played in the Beijing 2008 Olympic Orchestra.

Mr Barton played the alto saxophone in the 2008 member band at various venues in China such as the Great Wall as well as the necessary sporting events.

The orchestra was also the first international band to play at Tiananmen Square.

Practicing seven hours a day the orchestra, which mostly consisted of high school students, worked hard to get the songs note perfect.

However, there was still time for site seeing.

It took 57 buses to ferry the whole orchestra around, but while in China 20 year old Tom and the Millennium Marching band, which made up the Australian section, managed to visit the Forbidden City, Summer Palace and they spent three days site seeing in Shanghai.

Tom returned from his busy visit to China on Wednesday, August 13, but there was no time to rest. He went straight back to University where he is studying music.
